On pages 123-24, Alison talks about a dream she had about her and her dad two nights before he died. In the dream she points out how they are at the Bullpen, and there was, "a glorious sunset visible through the trees". I felt like her subconscious or her woman's intuition was trying to tell her something about this odd dream. First of all, I feel the entire dream was telling her about herself about hers and her fathers sexuality. Her an her father are at or on the Bull pen, which was an area she was very familiar with. I think the glorious sunset stood for her fathers gay ways and them being symbolic and turned into sun rays. The rays are coming through trees to symbolize how his gayness is appearing through his smily tree. In the dream she said, "at first her father ignored her, and she raced over the velvety moss in her bare feet." The ignored portion, was him ignoring her gay ways at first when she was younger, then when she got older she ran completely out of the closet. The velvet moss on her bare feet stood for the smooth transition it was for her to come out. Then in her dream they finally make it to the top, but "by the time they made it the sun sunk behind the horizon and the brilliant colors were gone". The part of her finally getting to the top to see the sunset, stood for her father finally coming out the closet himself, but do to some blind misfortune "his accidental death", he missed his chance to come out.
1. Overal do you all believe her father would have eventually come out the closet, or do yo believe he would have tried to stay in as long as possible? why or why not?
2.What do you all believe the reason he did not come out after the kids where older?
3.Do you think the mom was a fool for staying after the kids were out of the house or is it she just did not care anymore?
