Porn Kills

Pornography kills. Or it could. The world would like you to thank that, wouldn't it? But this dreaded underbelly of society, catches on and attracts all the worse kinds of people; despite it never being inherently evil it becomes much like the villain of an old cartoon twiddling his curly mustache, laughing maniacally. Knowing this I’ve come across a predicament, which I've attempted in wrapping my head around.

   In this community, in this perceived society; the attitudes of everyone around you will ultimately shape you into that weird neurotic humanoid you are today. society creates people. But in this community, and in this society; you’ll find that it doesn't always stay the same. After all a person can incite new ideas into the fold; he or she will want to change the attitude of the people. And thus people create society. When considering pornography you must also consider sex in general, it has an inherent biological effect on our livelihoods. Sexual arousal in its basic form can incite breeding. Yet complications arise within communities, what we know about sex is what is taught to us, and when we need to learn more about concepts of contraception or sexuality and a community cannot provide the information, then thats up to us the individual to search for answers. For example we rely on sexual education in school in order to learn about our bodies, further education would come from me acting on the information i already have. But if society has negatives views on the matter of sex, than the nature of information gathering is interestingly an unwholesome act. Censorship is, in many ways, an unnatural means of stunting a person's growth. The laws built around the concept of sex builds tension around the anatomy of the human body, and not long do we have certain parts of our own bodies illegal. But whats the problem with wanting to blur out female nipples; afterall there are many reasons why porn is bad. You’ve heard them: the degradation of women, the unhealthy standards they present, a source for imitation, the corruption of our youth. These are standards built on our society that creates and gives power to the “obscene” counter culture, and it attracts the worse kind of people. People who originally thought that condemning “smut” would allow a cleaner society have risked objectifying sexual desire as a vice. A vice that will either lead a new generation of kids into two separate paths, those that avoid “obscene” and those that cherish it. While a “wholesome” person avoids the seedy underbelly they will find themselves ill prepared for the basics in life, simply put the idea of knowing both their body and their kins. On the next path the “obscene” flourishes, regulations built on lies or bad behavior tend to make a larger market for porn. Left to its own devices i’d say there is anything wrong with the themes displayed in porn, after all it’s relative to each consumer. But a consumers market needs to be better and more “obscene” if its to reach its audience. Porn becomes toxic in ways it shouldn’t, sexual arousal is natural not perverse. But we lose that distinction with these unhealthy views on sex. The whole situation is built on the views that demean it. Soon our generation is going to have to teach sex ed to our kids and passing along the views taught to us will only further endorse the segregation of thought. We can affect our society in a positive manner that will allow our Books, television, and movies to show sex in a positive light and not something to be feared.

We can’t keep banning sex otherwise were going to repeat the same mistake over again.
